This groundbreaking achievement, conducted in collaboration with ART Fertility Clinic, highlights ADSCC's unwavering commitment to improving patient outcomes and advancing paediatric oncology care.
A Life-Saving Procedure Amidst a Challenging Medical Journey
The patient, a 7-year-old Emirati girl, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia—a severe form of cancer that had resisted initial chemotherapy and conventional treatments. Despite facing such a daunting diagnosis, her condition stabilised with targeted therapy, offering a glimmer of hope for a cure.
ADSCC's paediatric haematologists determined that a bone marrow transplant was the best course of action, with the patient's half-matched brother serving as the donor. However, the high-dose chemotherapy and total body irradiation required for the transplant posed significant fertility risks. In a proactive approach, ADSCC's medical experts, with the consent of the patient’s parents, opted for ovarian tissue cryopreservation (OTC) to safeguard the young girl's future fertility.
